Being a “semi-retired” full-timer just got a whole bunch easier. I just plugged in an upgrade model of a tried and true cell phone booster, and now we are able to use our wireless device — wirelessly.

What a difference from six-years ago where we had to, for business reasons, find commercial RV parks that had any sort of phone connection ($)—even if only a pay phone at the office we could use a Pocket Mail device to check our e-mail.

Then with 3-G cell service in a digital area we found a way to get online at ISDN speeds. This lead to our making camp out in the deserts of the Far West, way up high, to connect with “civilization.” However, other places to safely spend a night required driving about in a four-wheel drive ‘dingy’ to scout out digital service. One very favorite county park on the Colorado River required standing on a rock, facing NNW, just to get analog voice only roam.

The only negative from this experience was being hard-wire tethered to the amplifier just above our recliner chair. This made it a bit embarrassing when ‘neighbors’ kept asking if they could plug in their phone to check-in with their grandchildren. Since our system seemed to work with every system but Nextel, it got just a little boring being the most popular couple in the campground.
